Smart Summary and Chapters | LanEcho User Guide

Smart Summary and Chapters

Once a Transcript exists, you can generate a “Smart Summary” for the recording: pick a summary template, and the system automatically distills the topic, time, participants, action items, and key points. At the same time, structured “Chapters” are created to help you locate key content quickly, even in long recordings.

Generating a Smart Summary

  1. Open the recording details and go to the “Smart Summary” tab (a Transcript must already exist).
  2. Tap “Generate Smart Summary”.
  3. Choose a template in the “Select Summary Template” dialog. Each template shows an icon, name, and description, and the dialog shows how many generations you have left this month (“Smart summaries available this month: X” / “Remaining smart summary generations: X”). The count is configured centrally by your organization administrator.
  4. Tap “Continue” and generation begins in the background. The page shows “Generating smart summary. You will be notified when done.” — you can leave anytime.
  5. You’ll get a notification when it’s done. Tap it to view the summary.

If you haven’t renamed the speakers yet, tapping “Generate Smart Summary” first prompts “Please edit speaker names before generating the smart summary.” Follow “Editing Speaker Names” first for more accurate people info in the summary.

Built-In Summary Templates

LanEcho provides 8 built-in summary templates covering common recording scenarios. Templates are maintained by your organization administrator in the management console, and only templates in the “enabled” state appear in the app’s selection dialog.

Meeting Minutes Formal meetings with discussions & conclusions
Keynote Speech Solo speech with views and case sharing
Daily Communication Light work coordination for 2-3 people
Study & Lecture Notes Course training & knowledge point recording
Personal Affairs Personal/family daily life planning & notes

What’s in a Summary

A finished Smart Summary contains structured content — topic, time, participants, action items, and key points — with visual renderings such as mind maps and flowcharts, so you can take in the whole picture on one screen.

A disclaimer sits at the end of every summary: “The above content is intelligently generated by AI and is for reference only.”

Chapters

When a Smart Summary is generated, the system also creates “Chapters” automatically — Chapters don’t consume any generation quota themselves. On success, a “Chapters” tab appears after “Smart Summary” in the tab bar.

What’s in a Chapter

Chapters are divided automatically by AI along the recording’s timeline and topic changes. Each chapter has four elements:

Element Details
Time The chapter’s start time, in hh:mm:ss
Topic A summary of the chapter’s subject
Content Overview A full rundown of the chapter’s discussion
Conclusion Decisions, consensus, or action items reached; if none, “No clear conclusion was reached in this chapter” is shown

Tap a Time to Jump

  1. On the “Chapters” tab, tap a chapter’s time.
  2. The page returns to the “Transcript” tab, then jumps automatically to the text at that time and highlights it.
  3. If no timestamp in the Transcript matches exactly, it jumps to the nearest position.

Chapter Rules

Regenerate Summary

For a recording that already has a summary, generate again to refresh the content or switch templates:

  1. Tap “···” at the top right of the recording details and choose “Regenerate Summary”.
  2. The template dialog opens with the current template preselected — pick another if you like.
  3. Tap “Continue” to start regenerating. When done, both summary and Chapters update, and members it was shared with see the latest content too.

You can’t trigger another generation while one is running — tapping again shows “Operation failed. Please wait until the smart summary is completed.” Wait for the current generation to finish.

Smart Rename

When a Smart Summary is generated or regenerated, the system automatically uses the summary topic as the recording name, making the recording list easier to search:

Recording name state On generate / regenerate
Never renamed (default date-time name) Automatically renamed to the summary topic
Previously auto-renamed by the system Can be overwritten by the new topic on regeneration
Manually renamed by you Never auto-overwritten

For renaming a recording manually, see the “Renaming” section in “Export and File Management”.

Recording Info

The “Recording Info” tab shows this recording’s archive details:

Completion and Failure Notifications

Transcription and summary results arrive as card messages from the “LanEcho” service account in Lansenger:

Tap a notification card to jump straight to the matching tab in the recording details. If the recording was deleted before the notification went out, no notification is sent — no dead-end messages.

For generating a Transcript and playback tips, see “Transcript and Playback”. Summaries can be exported as documents and forwarded — see “Export and File Management”.
