Sync and Upload
Before a recording is ready to use, it travels two legs: “sync” and “upload”. This article explains the difference, the automatic sync and upload rules, Flash Transfer acceleration, task cancellation, and how to manage files on the device.
Sync vs. Upload
- Sync: recording files travel from the recording card to your phone’s local storage, over Bluetooth or Flash Transfer (direct transfer via the device’s Wi-Fi hotspot).
- Upload: recording files travel from your phone to your organization’s cloud. Only after uploading is the recording information synced to the server and visible when you sign in on other devices with the same account.
The two status bars at the top of the LanEcho home page map to these two legs: “Syncing 1/3” means files are moving from the device to your phone; “Uploading 1/3” means files are moving from your phone to the cloud.
Automatic Sync (Device → Phone)
The “Auto-Sync After Device Connection” switch is on by default and can be changed in “More” on the LanEcho home page:
- When on, the app connects to the device as you enter LanEcho and starts syncing automatically if pending recordings are found on the device.
- When off, there’s no automatic checking or syncing — you can pick recordings to sync manually in the “Files” tab of “My Device” (see below).
Behavior during sync:
- The top status bar shows “Syncing 1/3”. Tap it to expand the list of syncing and pending recordings.
- The system deduplicates by device serial number and file name — recordings already on your phone are never synced twice.
- Each completed file prompts “Recording xxx synced successfully”.
- A failed sync retries once automatically. If it still fails, you’ll see “Sync failed. Please reopen LanEcho or sync manually.” Unfinished recordings continue the next time you enter LanEcho.
- If Bluetooth drops mid-sync, a dialog offers “Cancel” or “Retry”.
- If you leave the app mid-sync, syncing continues in the background: “Syncing recordings. Sync will continue in background after exiting app.”
“Auto-Delete After Sync”
This switch is off by default and can be changed in “More” on the LanEcho home page:
- Off (default): after syncing, recording files stay on the device and keep occupying its storage — clean them up manually in the “Files” tab.
- On: as each recording finishes syncing, its file is deleted from the device automatically, freeing up space.
Make sure the sync pipeline is healthy before turning this on. Only the copy on the device is deleted — recordings already synced to your phone are unaffected.
Upload to the Cloud (Phone → Cloud)
Recordings synced to your phone upload automatically — nothing for you to do:
- Files upload in the order they synced, up to 3 at a time.
- Uploading continues in the background after you leave LanEcho. It pauses when the network drops and resumes automatically when connectivity returns.
- The top status bar shows “Uploading 1/3”. Tap it to expand the list of uploading and pending recordings.
- Each completed file prompts “Recording xxx uploaded successfully”. Failed recordings upload again automatically the next time you enter LanEcho.
Flash Transfer: Direct Transfer over Wi-Fi Hotspot
When many files are waiting and Bluetooth feels slow, turn on “Flash Transfer”: your phone temporarily connects to the card’s Wi-Fi hotspot for direct file transfer, syncing 10x faster.
Starting Flash Transfer
- Tap the Flash Transfer entry on the sync status bar on the home page to open the Flash Transfer dialog.
- Tap “Flash Transfer”. Your phone starts connecting to the device hotspot: “Establishing hotspot connection with LanEcho device.”
- Once connected, transfer begins. The dialog shows “Files to Sync: X” with a progress bar (progress is counted by file).
Flash Transfer needs Wi-Fi / local network permissions. If you see “Insufficient Permissions, Failed to Start Flash Transfer”, tap “Go to Settings” to grant the permissions and try again. Flash Transfer can’t start when no device is connected.
Notes During Flash Transfer
- While transferring, your phone is on the device hotspot and can’t reach the external network. The dialog warns: “Connected to device hotspot. External network is unavailable. Please do not exit the page.”
- When all files are transferred, the hotspot disconnects and your network recovers automatically — nothing for you to do. You’ll see “Flash Transfer complete! X files transferred in X seconds!”
- Once started, the dialog can’t be dismissed (tapping outside it does nothing). To interrupt the transfer, tap “Disconnect” at the bottom of the dialog — your phone leaves the hotspot and falls back to Bluetooth to sync the remaining files.
- If Flash Transfer breaks unexpectedly (hotspot connection failure, Wi-Fi drop), choose “Got it” or “Retry” as prompted. Choosing “Got it” falls back to Bluetooth automatically to continue with the unfinished files.
Canceling Sync and Upload Tasks
Expand the sync or upload status bar to cancel queued tasks:
| Task state | Cancellable | Behavior after canceling |
|---|---|---|
| Syncing | No | A sync in progress must run to completion |
| Pending Sync | Yes | Removed from the queue; triggered again the next time you enter LanEcho, return to the list, or finish a recording |
| Uploading | Yes | The next pending upload takes its place |
| Pending Upload | Yes | Removed from the queue; triggered again the next time the app launches |
Managing Files on the Device
The “Files” tab in “My Device” lists every recording file on the card — title, start time, duration, and status (Not Synced / Syncing / Synced) — with a checkmark icon next to synced files. Files are sorted by recording start time, newest first.
Single-File Actions
Long-press a recording to open the action menu:
- Sync to Phone: sync that recording to your phone manually. You’ll see “Operation succeeded. Return to the previous page for sync progress.”
- Delete: after the second confirmation “Deletion cannot be undone. Confirm delete?”, the file is deleted from the device. Success prompts “Operation Successful”.
Batch Actions
Enter multi-select mode to check multiple recordings (select all supported) and run:
- Batch Sync to Phone: before syncing starts, you’ll see “Recordings already synced to your phone will not be synced again.”
- Batch Delete: the result is reported as — full success: “x recordings deleted”; partial success: “x deleted, x failed”; full failure: “Deletion failed. Please try again.”
In batch operations, files that are syncing or pending sync can’t be selected. The Remote is unavailable in multi-select mode — exit multi-select first.
Once recordings are synced and uploaded, you can generate a Transcript — see “Transcript and Playback”. For recording methods, see “Recording”.
